Founded in 1967 by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The abbreviation AMG stands for Aufrecht - Melcher - Grossaspach, the latter being Aufrecht's birthplace. The company started in Burgstall in southern Germany, but moved to nearby Affalterbach in the mid 1970s when the small factory in Burgstall couldn't handle the ever growing demand for tuned Mercedes. By the 1980s AMG was one of the biggest tuning companies for Mercedes-Benz cars in the world, with official subsidaries in Japan (AMG Japan LTD) and the USA (AMG of North-America) © 1000sel.com
